I offer virtual 1:1 tutoring or small group instruction as appropriate. It is recommended to plan for 2-3 sessions a week/90+ minutes to see growth using Barton or Foundations in Sounds. UFLI Foundations instruction is 4 sessions a week/30 minutes each session. Sessions are individualized based on the needs and interests of the student after a placement test during our first session.
I excel at connecting with my students and families. I understand that a student may come to tutoring after experiencing frustration and even an emotional journey with reading and writing. I meet students where they are at to build trust, a love of reading, and confidence. My number one goal is building students up to see they potential in themselves while giving them to tools to be successful. I believe that learning is a team effort with the students and family on board!
My typical session lasts 30-45 minutes. We start the session with 2-3 minutes of connection. I ask about my student's daily life, sometimes we share jokes, or even give pet updates! The bulk of the learning takes place on an interactive learning platform called, KoalaGo. I integrate games, student interests, and brain breaks based on the student's needs. The session concludes with 3 minutes of fun in the playground where students can play hide & seek, build their own world, Minecraft style, or play games! After each session, I send a detailed email to the family recapping what was learned, next steps (if learning is happening outside of session time), and optional homework. Homework usually consists of lesson aligned games, sight word review, and practice for fluency using stories from the current lesson.
The first session starts with a screener or placement test based on the needs and goals of each child. This typically takes most of the first session. After the completion of the inital screening, we will start immediately with the appropriate intervention. A follow-up email detailing the screening results and intervention plan will be sent after the first session. Parents are always welcome to join as observers at any session!
